A brand new look

Yesterday our house got a whole new look. I am amazed at how much of an impact a fresh coat of paint can have, but our entire upstairs looks so much better. We painted the entry way, living room, dining room, kitchen, and upstairs hallway. It took us – and our moms – all of Saturday (my dad came in the afternoon), but we did it.

Sheesh.

I tried to snap some before and after pictures, and although my camera isn’t the greatest, I think you can tell how much different – and brighter (better) – the new colors are.

Living Room Before

Living Room After

The living room went from dark brown, peach, and an off-white to being this gorgeous warm yellow (called blonde) with the bold blue accent wall. You can’t tell in the picture, but our couch is blue, too, which really goes nicely with both the yellow and the blue. The room really comes together now.

Entryway Before

Entryway After

I know the after picture is not very good, but the blonde color continues into the entryway and down the stairs. It’s much more inviting than the boring peachy color that was there. We also painted the upstairs hallway the blonde color. Seriously, inviting is the best way to describe the effect this color has on these two spaces.

Dining Room Before

Dining Room After (w/ view into kitchen)

Even though the camera views are different, you can see we painted the dining room in the same blonde color, and we’re very happy with how it looks. It creates much more continuity between the living room and dining room, and also that warmth. And you can’t see the floor in the picture, but it has gold flecks to it which are really highlighted by the wall color.

Kitchen Before

Kitchen After

The kitchen. Oh the kitchen is my favorite transformation of all. The color before was perfectly fine, but this blue-gray is so much better. It compliments our counters and floor so so so nicely, and makes the white cabinets come alive. Did I mention this is my favorite? Because it is.

Seriously: such a difference in all the spaces. It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. And we’re so grateful for our moms – and my dad – for doing so much work to make this happen.
